Frequently asked questions
How the lessons work, what a membership includes, and how billing is handled.
Getting started
What is BassCamera?
A library of bass guitar video lessons, online since 2007. Every lesson is filmed close on the hands and split into parts, so you learn a song section by section with the tablature in front of you.
Do I need a membership to watch?
Yes. Lesson videos, tablature downloads and Guitar Pro files are for members. You can browse the whole catalogue, see which lessons exist and check their level before subscribing.
I am a complete beginner. Is this for me?
Yes. Lessons are graded Beginner, Easy, Intermediate and Advanced, and you can filter the catalogue by level. Start with Beginner songs and the exercises section to build technique.
Can I use it on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The site works on any modern browser and the video and tab stay readable on a small screen. There is no app to install.
Lessons and tabs
How do the parts work?
Each lesson is broken into named parts such as Intro, Verse and Chorus. Click a part and the video jumps to it while the tablature for that same part appears below. Use Loop to repeat a difficult section until it sticks.
Can I download the tablature?
Members can export any lesson's tablature as a PDF, with the song and artist details on the page, ready to print or read on a tablet.
Do lessons come with Guitar Pro files?
Most do. When a part has a Guitar Pro file, a download button appears next to Loop in the player. Availability is shown on the lesson page even when you are signed out, so you know what you are getting before you subscribe.
Why do some videos look low resolution?
The archive goes back to 2007 and the older lessons were filmed at the resolutions of the time. The player respects each video's native size instead of stretching it, so an old lesson stays sharp rather than turning blurry. Newer lessons are recorded at higher resolution.
Is there a metronome and a tuner?
Yes, on every lesson page, and both are free for everyone. The metronome starts at the lesson's own BPM and the tuner plays reference notes for standard bass tuning.
Can I ask for a specific song?
Yes, send the artist and song through the contact page. Requests from members are what shape most of what gets recorded next.
Membership and billing
What does it cost?
Three plans, all in US dollars: 9.99 per month, 59.99 per year, or 99.99 for two years. The longer plans work out cheaper per month. Every plan gives the same full access to the catalogue.
How do I pay?
Payments are handled by Stripe, which accepts the major credit and debit cards. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers.
Does it renew automatically?
Yes. Your plan renews at the end of each term so your access does not lapse. You can turn renewal off at any time and keep access until the paid period ends.
How do I cancel?
Open My account and click Manage subscription. That opens the Stripe billing portal, where you can cancel, change plan, update your card and download receipts. Cancelling stops the next charge; you keep access until the date already paid for.
I subscribed years ago through PayPal. What changes for me?
Nothing. Long-standing PayPal subscriptions keep renewing at the price you originally agreed to, and that price will not be raised. Because PayPal holds the agreement, cancellation is done from your PayPal account, under recurring payments. Write to us if you would rather we handle it.
Will my price go up?
Not on an existing subscription. Current prices apply to new subscriptions; if you are already paying, you keep the price you signed up at for as long as the subscription stays active.
I paid but I still cannot watch anything.
Payments usually confirm in seconds, but a bank can take longer to clear one. Sign out and back in first, since access is refreshed when you sign in. If it still has not opened up after a few minutes, write to us with the email you paid with and we will sort it out.
Do you give refunds?
If something is not what you expected, write to us within 14 days of the charge and we will refund it. No form to fill in.
Your account
I forgot my password.
Use the Forgot your password link on the sign-in page. We email you a link that is valid for one hour and can be used once. If the email does not arrive, check the spam folder before trying again.
How do I change my email or name?
Write to us from the address on the account and we will update it. Changing the billing email is done in the Stripe portal, through Manage subscription.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Ask us from the address on the account and we will delete it along with your data. If you have an active subscription, cancel it first so you are not charged again.
Technical
A video will not play.
First try another lesson: if that one plays, tell us which lesson failed. If nothing plays, the usual causes are an ad blocker or a corporate network blocking video. Try a different browser or network, and make sure you are still signed in.
The Guitar Pro file will not open.
These are .gp5 files. Guitar Pro 5 or later opens them, as does TuxGuitar, which is free. If your browser saved the file with a different extension, rename it so it ends in .gp5.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge, on desktop and mobile. Nothing to install and no plugins.
